Carrying War
Tany Bellehumeur-Allatt was at Brome Lake Books on Saturday September 12, 2026, talking about her new book: Carrying War
Terrorism first intersected Tanya Bellehumeur- Allatt’s life in 1982 when she was twelve years old and living in Israel. Its shadow loomed closer when her family moved to Beirut at the height of the Lebanese Civil War to accompany her father on his United Nations peacekeeping mission. The essays in Carrying War are about one woman’s lifelong struggle with fear and the ways she has found to overcome it.
Tanya Bellehumeur-Allatt is the author of the critically acclaimed Carrying War (Dundurn, 2026), featured in the Globe and Mail as one of the 36 Best Books of Summer. Her debut memoir, Peacekeeper’s Daughter (Thistledown, 2021), was a finalist for the Mavis Gallant Nonfiction Award. Tanya has two poetry collections: Chaos Theories of Goodness (Shoreline, 2022) and The Hospitality of Trees (Shoreline, 2025). She lives in North Hatley, QC.
