Enriched Childhood & Lady’s Slipper

Join us at Brome Lake Books on Saturday May 2, 2026 from 2 - 4 p.m., for a heartwarming author talk with writer Judy (Dubeau) Stewart. Judy will be reading from her books: ENRICHED CHILDHOOD  and LADY'S SLIPPER.

Enriched Childhood is a charming story that follows the adventures of Jacquie as she grows up in a large French Canadian family on a rural Quebec farm in the early nineteen sixties. Filled with humour, family tales, and unforgettable farm life moments, this all ages event is perfect for families and anyone who enjoys stories that celebrate childhood, community, and memory.

Lady's Slipper is a compilation of prose and poetry that reflects Judy's thoughts and responses to major life events from childhood through adulthood and retirement. As a young teacher of special needs children and preschoolers, she often made up stories and songs for dancing and gym activities to encourage running, jumping, stretching and learning. ore recently, Judy and her elder sister began writing poetry to one another to share stories where memories, family, and friends featured prominently. At its core, Lady's Slipper is about human transformation in a complex, dynamic ecosystem where everything is connected.

Re-Visioning Retirement

Author Susan Reid was at Brome Lake Books on Saturday December 6 from 5 - 7 p.m., where Susan talked about her latest book (workbook): RE-VISIONING RETIREMENT.

What do you want to be when you retire? It's an easy question to ask, but many people retire without exploring the question. And it's a big one because most of us have many decades of life after quitting our paying jobs. What do you want to do with that time? How can you make it fulfilling, meaningful, and fun? Susan challenges readers to ask themselves:

What's next? — What do I aspire to? — What's my legacy?

To help readers answer these questions, Susan has created a workbook that guides readers in clarifying their vision of who they want to be in retirement. It's based on a research-backed method that she has used successfully to help entrepreneurs and businesses develop a clear vision for driving their activities. Now, she has adapted that method to help retirees, and people on the cusp of retirement, to create a vision for the next chapter of life.
